Renaissance Theatre 2025-2026 Virtual Season Auditions

The Renaissance is pleased to announce virtual auditions for the 2025-2026 Season. 

Please submit 16-32 bars of a song in the style of the show(s) you are auditioning for and a dance reel if available.

The Renaissance is committed to inclusion and diversity. We strongly encourage the casting of women, non-gender binary/trans individuals, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), and people with disabilities in roles where these are not germane to the role.

THE WIZARD OF OZ (July 26th-August 3rd, 2025)

Dorothy Gale

The pretty young heroine. She is transported to Oz from her home in Kansas. Initially dreams of leaving her dull Kansas life, but discovers that home is where her heart is.

Dorothy's aunt and Henry's wife. A typical midwestern farm worker, her main concern is the upkeep of her farm.

Miss Gulch/Wicked Witch

The villain of the story, she is bent on grabbing Dorothy after she accidentally kills her sister and takes her shoes. A comedic villainess who is also crafty and menacing.

Glinda

The Good Witch of the North. Beautiful and graceful. Both ethereal and somewhat whimsical, she helps guide Dorothy once she lands in Oz.

Zeke/Scarecrow

A corn field fixture who joins Dorothy to get a brain from the Wizard. Kind and clumsy, he realizes that a new hat is all he needs to unlock the potential of his brain.

A very mechanical man who believes he doesn't have a heart. Joins Dorothy on her quest. Wide-eyed and gentle, but moves like a robot.

A beast of the forest, venturing to Oz to get courage from the Wizard. He is frightened of everything, and his terror and subsequent sadness is extremely over-the-top. By the end, he is able to find his confidence.

Georg Nowack

An established employee of Maraczek's Parfumerie, he resembles a hopeless romantic. Shy, intelligent, and soft spoken.

Amalia Balash

The eager new employee at Maraczek's Parfumerie. Despite being a skilled saleswoman, she easily becomes intimidated and nervous. Attractive, bright, and a lover of literature.

Owner of Maraczek's Parfumerie. With a commanding presence, his dedication to the trade is rivaled only by his faithfulness to his wife.

Delivery boy at Maraczek's Parfumerie. His exuberance is infectious and commitment to his job remarkable. He is ambitious and adorable.

Not the brightest employee at Maraczek's Parfumerie. A confidant to Georg, he is an optimistic family man who looks like a huggable father.

Senex

Domina

Senex's wife. A shrewish woman who dominates to the point of answering herself the questions she asks of others. Loves her husband deep down, but is outwardly controlling, demanding, and manipulative. Vocal range top: F5 Vocal range bottom: B3

Hero

The young son of Senex and Domina. He falls in love with Philia and agrees to give Pseudolus his freedom if he can help Hero woo her. Practical, privileged, romantic. Vocal range top: G4 Vocal range bottom: B2

Hysterium

The chief slave in the House of Senex. Believes he is in control, but is actually Pseudolus' puppet to carry out his schemes. Anxious, conservative, loyal. He desperately wants everything to be in order. Vocal range top: G5 Vocal range bottom: D4

Pseudolus

A Roman slave, owned by Hero, who seeks to win his freedom by helping his young master win the heart of Philia. Quick-witted, scheming, childlike spirit. Vocal range top: A4 Vocal range bottom: A2

Erronius

An old man, searching for his lost children. Vocal range top: G4 Vocal range bottom: B2

Miles Gloriosus

The archetype of the braggart soldier. A captain in the Roman army to whom Marcus Lycus has promised Philia. Commanding, boastful, manly and strong. Vocal range top: F5 Vocal range bottom: B3

Lycus

The owner of the house of Courtesans. Always out to make a profit, but also wants to provide good on what his business offers. Vocal range top: F5 Vocal range bottom: A3

Philia

A virgin in the House of Lycus whom we also find out is Erronius' daughter. She is promised to Miles and vows to give him bodily what he has paid for, but loves Hero and promises he will always have her heart. Young, pretty, devoted. An archetypal ingénue. Rock mezzo with a strong high belt and head voice; the younger daughter of the Borden household, accused of her father and stepmother's axe murders; damaged and twisted, can turn on a dime from fragile, broken, meek and obedient to conniving, sinister, furious, and terrifying Age: 18+ 

Alice 

Pop/rock soprano with a strong mix; Lizzie's next door neighbor who visits frequently; seductive and secretive, with an almost maternal tenderness in her affections for Lizzie. Age: 18 to 30 

Emma 

Rock alto/mezzo belt; Lizzie's older sister; resentful of her father's marriage to his second wife and his financial support of her family; protective, outspoken, and commanding; furious, but also desperately sad. Age: 18 to 35 

Bridget

Rock mezzo; the Borden family maid of several years and occasional show narrator; Irish; speaks and sings in dialect; clever with a dry and dark sense of humor; a rock and roll nihilist; not much gets past her. Age: 18+

1776: In Concert with the Mansfield Symphony (May 20th, 2026) 

John Adams

Delegate from Massachusetts. John is a dutiful husband. Opinionated, passionate, and a bit boisterous, he wears his age with pride. Starving for independence from England. Vocal range top: F#4 Vocal range bottom: C3

Stephen Hopkins

Delegate from Rhode Island. Hopkins' drinking has led to an appearance befitting the 2nd oldest in the Continental Congress. He has a dirty old man playfulness about him. Vocal range top: Eb4 Vocal range bottom: C3

Roger Sherman

Delegate from Connecticut. A coffee drinker with a penchant for hyperactivity, Sherman is a simple and balding cobbler. Vocal range top: Bb4, Vocal range bottom: C3.

Robert Livingston

Delegate from New York. Recently a father, Livingston's disposition has become one of humility and graciousness. He has changed considerably over the years.  Vocal range top: F4, Vocal range bottom: Bb2.

Benjamin Franklin

Delegate from Pennsylvania. Franklin is intelligent, well-traveled, and pleasantly cunning. A jolly and admirable fellow with whom one would desire to have a friendship. Vocal range top: Eb4, Vocal range bottom: Ab2

John Dickinson

Delegate from Pennsylvania. A thin, hawkish gentleman. He is sharp-tongued and a touch detestable. Vocal range top: E4, Vocal range bottom: A2.

Col. Thomas Mckean

Delegate from Delaware. McKean is florid and likable with a charming, yet commanding, Scottish Brogue. Vocal range top: Eb4, Vocal range bottom: C3.

Richard Henry Lee

Delegate from Virginia, Lee is a willowy aristocrat. His flamboyancy is intoxicating and borderline infuriating. Vocal range top: G4, Vocal range bottom: C3

Thomas Jefferson

Delegate from Virginia. Though noticeably tall, Jefferson is mild-mannered and sweet. Along with being a well read man, he is very much in love with his wife. Vocal range top: G4, Vocal range bottom: C3.

Edward Rutledge

Delegate from South Carolina. Despite his good looks, Rutledge is haunting and somewhat ominous as the youngest member of the Continental Congress. There is a serpent-like quality to him. Vocal range top: A4, Vocal range bottom: C3.

Abigail Adams

Loving wife to John Adams. Intelligent, quick-witted, and talented with a pen, Abigail is a radiant and shapely beauty. Every bit as bright as her husband. Vocal range top: F5, Vocal range bottom: Db4.

Martha Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson's very-much-in-love wife. Her looks are striking, her dancing delightful, and her humor appealing. She doesn't shy away from a good time. Joy radiates from her. Vocal range top: D5, Vocal range bottom: Bb3.

Courier

The message runner between General Washington's army and the Continental Congress. He has witnessed the hardships of war firsthand, although his innocent disposition and appearance may imply otherwise. Vocal range top: Db4, Vocal range bottom: C3.


Renaissance Youth Opera Theatre Summer Show: 1001 Arabian Nights

The Renaissance Theatre will hold auditions for the Renaissance Youth Opera Theatre production of 1001 Arabian Nights on Friday, May 2, 2025, from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM, and Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM in Theatre 166, located at 166 Park Avenue West in downtown Mansfield. Theatre 166 is located directly west of the Historic Renaissance Theatre. Appointments are not required for auditions.

Those auditioning must be 18 years of age or younger (unless still attending high school) during the 2024-25 school year and should be no younger than 9 years of age. Anyone auditioning should be prepared to sing a 16-32 measure excerpt from a song of their choice and bring sheet music in the proper key. An accompanist will be provided. Some actors may be asked to read a short scene from the script. Those auditioning should bring a list of schedule conflicts between the dates of auditions and the performances. This production is directed by Lori Turner.

Join the Mansfield Symphony Chorus

The Mansfield Symphony Chorus invites singers of all backgrounds to share their voices in an unforgettable musical experience. Rehearsals are held weekly on Sundays from 6:30–8:00 PM at the Renaissance Theatre. This talented ensemble performs alongside the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra, bringing cherished classics and new works to life.

No formal audition is required—simply drop in during a rehearsal to learn more and meet the group. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or new to choral singing, the Symphony Chorus is a welcoming space to grow musically and connect with fellow enthusiasts.
